Fishing in Idaho

Idaho is a trout-and-steelhead state. The Henry's Fork of the Snake and the South Fork below Palisades are world-class dry-fly water. The Salmon — the longest free-flowing river in the lower 48 — runs steelhead and chinook hundreds of miles inland. Lake Pend Oreille produces trophy mackinaw and kamloops rainbows; Coeur d'Alene Lake holds chinook and northern pike. The Snake River below Hells Canyon gives up sturgeon over 10 feet, all caught and released by regulation.
