Fishing in Wyoming

Wyoming is wild-trout country. The North Platte's Miracle Mile and Grey Reef sections grow rainbows and browns to 30 inches. The Snake River through Jackson Hole produces native fine-spotted Snake River cutthroat. The Green, Wind, Bighorn, and Yellowstone all run blue-ribbon water. Flaming Gorge, Boysen, and Buffalo Bill reservoirs hold lake trout, walleye, and trophy browns. High-country lakes in the Wind River and Beartooth ranges shelter golden trout, the state fish. Pressure stays light and fish stay willing.

Most anglers need both a fishing license AND a Conservation Stamp ($21.50) — the stamp is a separate-line prerequisite, not bundled. Boaters add an AIS Decal on top. The Reciprocity Stamp at $30 is unique to Flaming Gorge: with it, a WY angler can fish the UT side of the reservoir without a UT license (UT has the matching $59 reciprocal permit going the other direction). Pioneer (long-time resident) and 50%+ disabled-veteran licenses are free.
