About the Moon Snail
Moon snails, belonging to the Naticidae family, are distinctive marine gastropods easily identified by their characteristically globular, smooth, and often shiny shells. These shells typically feature a low spire and a large, rounded body whorl, giving them a sleek, dome-like appearance. While many are pale cream, gray, or brown, their polished surface is a key identifier. When active, they extend an enormous, muscular foot that can almost entirely envelop their shell, allowing them to glide efficiently over sandy bottoms.

Habitat
While the specific environment for this particular moon snail is unknown, most species within the Naticidae family are typically found burrowing in sandy or muddy substrates. They prefer the soft bottoms of intertidal zones to subtidal depths, often near calm bays, estuaries, or open coastal areas.
Distribution
As a family, moon snails (Naticidae) are widely distributed across the globe, inhabiting temperate and tropical marine waters worldwide. They are common residents of coastal shelves in all major oceans.
Behaviour
These predatory sea snails are voracious hunters, primarily preying on bivalves and other gastropods. They employ a specialized radula and an acidic secretion to drill a perfectly round hole into the shells of their prey, consuming the soft tissues within. Moon snails are mostly nocturnal and spend much of their time burrowed beneath the sand, emerging to hunt during high tide or at night. Their large, powerful foot allows them to move relatively quickly across the seabed or completely bury themselves.
Lure suggestion
Moon snails are not typically targeted by recreational anglers and are generally not considered a game species. They may occasionally be encountered when digging for clams or other shellfish, but no specific lures or baits are designed to catch them.
